Côte Brasserie is a taste of modern French cuisine, inspired by bustling Parisian bistros. Côte can always be relied upon for authentic French dishes, you should really visit to try their Breakfast and Sunday roast menu.

Expect heavenly pastries, baguettes and crêpes sitting next to classics such as the Full English Breakfast on the menu. Why not try Côte's twist on the British staple? Their French Breakfast includes two fluffy scrambled eggs, boudin noir, French streaky bacon and a field mushroom on toasted brioche.

There's a selection of morning drinks to accompany your leisurely Breakfast, from a cafe au lait to a more lively Mimosa of  Blanc de Blanc Brut with fresh orange juice.

Their French Sunday lunch menu is an equally eclectic affair, created with a unique twist exclusively for two to share. Choose from corn-fed marinated chicken or sirlion steak (16oz), served with Comté & thyme ‘Yorkshire puddings’, crispy confit potatoes, gratin Provençal, tenderstem broccoli, lemon & herb aioli and peppercorn sauce.

We’re ideally located just a short walk from the iconic York Minster Cathedral, the Grand Opera House and the York Art Gallery.

We were staying in York for my wife’s birthday and ate at Cote on her birthday, which is a bit of a tradition for us if we are in a town with a Cote Brasserie. The food and service were both excellent as we have come to expect. I wish I could recall the name of our waitress to give her a special mention, as she was lovely. Would recommend.

We visited York for a day trip as a family and, just like in other cities we’ve been to, we decided to go with Côte — and once again, it did not disappoint. If you ask me, the starters might be the weakest part of the meal — and I say that only because the mains and especially the desserts are so good that they outshine the rest. Still, everything we had was enjoyable. We had noted during our reservation that one of us has coeliac disease, and without even having to mention it when we sat down, they brought over a gluten-free menu. Huge thanks to the team for being so considerate and attentive. For starters, we went with the Camembert Brûlée and Calamari. As mains, we had the Confit Duck à l’Orange and Poulet Breton (corn-fed roasted half chicken) — both of which you can see in the photos. The gratin dauphinois served with the duck takes the whole dish to another level, and the duck itself was cooked to absolute perfection. On the side, I opted for the Green Salad, which might sound simple, but it’s incredibly tasty — the mustard vinaigrette deserves its own shoutout. Highly recommend trying it. For dessert, we chose the Lemongrass & Lime Leaf Crème Brûlée, Crème Caramel Classique, and Chocolate Mousse. Everything except the Crème Brûlée was an instant hit with us. While it was beautifully made in theory, the flavor combination just wasn’t to our taste. Côte once again nailed it. Fingers crossed the Manchester branch reopens soon so we don’t have to travel cities just to enjoy these amazing dishes!

Phoned ahead to enquire about allergies and my safety - the lady on the telephone was very helpful and informative - I was impressed that my details were held on file (presumably after dining in Norwich restaurant) Our waiter was attentive, friendly and double checked everything for me and nothing was too much trouble. End result? A superb meal, fillet steak was spot on, excellent service and a great atmosphere. Will definitely be back when in York - thank you for a great experience 😊
