At The Prince Alfred, they keep things simple, classic and elegant - try their Sunday Lunch and Brunch dishes for a taste of it.

The grand Georgian building dates back to 1856 and has been making a reveller of locals ever since. Head to the Formosa Dining Room, a spacious, skylit area that basks diners in a warm glow, the etched glass and mahogany furniture giving a regal feel dining here.

Their small but winning Brunch menu hits all the right notes - try a classic Full English, avocado on toast with chilli flakes or the house favourite of eggs bread served with bacon and maple syrup.

Sunday Lunch is a cause for celebration at The Prince Alfred, championing British produce and combining classic Brit dishes with culinary flair. Start off healthy with a grapedruit, Yorkshire fettle and walnut salad or treat yourself to Dorset amb croquettes or a chicken liver parfait. Roasts here are mouth-watering, so choose from a range of tender meats (the treacle-glazed sirloin of beef is unmissable) all of which are served with goose-fat potatoes, buttery-soft Yorkshire pudding, crushed celeriac cabbage, honey-roasted carrots, parsnips and gravy.

Got room for dessert? The blood orange and custard tart will do the trick, or try their gooey, delicious chocolate brownie which has the added benefit of being gluten-free.
