Few pubs come with as much prestige and history, though The Lamb’s modern version of a Sunday Roast is the real draw.
From the mahogany railway-style bar and creaky floorboards, the lived-in feel of the place nods to its long and storied history in the area. The navy banquettes and rickety stools give a traditional pub feel, though the menu is constantly updated and boasts some modern twists on the traditional roast.
Start off with breaded monkfish, chicken liver parfait or roast celeriac soup for an authentic British taste, followed by extravagant meats like a whole roast pheasant (a bargain at just £21) or a Wiltshire leg of lamb with beetroot and lamb sauce. Desserts range from sticky figgy pudding, Bakewell tart and clotted cream and an apple crumble.
It’s located just a stones throw away from a number of stations.
