A local beer house with a lovely seasonal menu, The Dean Swift is just as adept at serving comfort food as it is being a boozy knees-up in the evening.

The quiet enclave of Butler’s Wharf is a path less travelled for foodies, a rarity in a city heaving with busy customers and eateries fighting for your attention. The Dean Swift is the ideal hideaway from the hustle and bustle, an unfussy and welcoming traditional pub with a huge beer menu and weekly roasts to rival the most upmarket of places.

Their commitment to local produce and microbreweries has seeped into their menu with a strong focus on classic British dishes. Munch on some beer snacks – the pork & apple scotch egg is a highlight – before moving on to the main event: our favourite is the rump of 28 day aged British roast beef with horseradish.

While it may give the impression of being remote, it’s ideally situated along the Thames, with the prestigious Tower Bridge on one side and Bermondsey Underground on the other, just a five minute stroll away.
