What once was just a local boozer has been transformed into an upscale Sunday Roast establishment, all thanks to their canny chefs, who combine the best locally-sourced produce with innovative techniques and traditional flavours.

Described by Jay Rayner as “the meeting place of scuzz and appetite”, it’s the perfect fusion for those who want an unfussy yet incredibly tasty meal, with added old-school boozer appeal. The décor is mahogany, autumnal and heavy, with a huge bar and outdoor seating in summer months.

Their menu is updated regularly according to what’s in season but in the past have included an Essex coast skate with samphire and butter sauce or a Tamworth pork shoulder chop with aioli, brimming with slow roasted onions and perfect for sharing between two. Follow it up with an orange and polenta cake or an apricot ripple gelato.
