The Alma Wandsworth has been a local watering hotel for decades and recently underwent a glorious restoration to give it a modern twist – don’t worry though, it still has an old-school pub charm.
It’s steeped in history and you can sense it on entering. The classic green tiles on the exterior have been a permanent fixture since its creation and they favour simple, comforting relaxation in the cosy armchairs and wide open hearth.
Come for breakfast and enjoy staple dishes like Eggs Benedict, Royale and Florentine plus American pancakes and a hefty Full English. One of our favourite dishes, however, is the smashed fresh peas, goat’s cheese and roasted hazelnuts on sourdough, a slightly lighter springtime breakfast dish. The Alma recognise that Sundays are a time for lavish banqueting so make sure your stomach is empty and enjoy a gorgeous 3-course Sunday Lunch. To start, why not try the poached trout with sour cream and horseradish or thin strips of beef and beetroot carpaccio, sourced from the West Country.
The main choices include rolled pork belly with roasted apple and crackling or a maple sirloin beef, served with all the trimmings – the double egg Yorkshire pudding is just begging to be drizzled in their thick homemade gravy. Leave room for dessert – you’ll kick yourself if you miss out on the honey and lemon polenta cake, which is topped with crunchy pistachios and yoghurt.
The Alma is right in the beating heart of Wandsworth Town, with the River Thames right on your doorstep. You’ll find Wandsworth Town Rail right across the street.
