As a smokehouse and steak restaurant, Temper in The City know a thing or two about cooking a proper meaty lunch.

Boasting one of the world’s biggest fire pits, Temper also has its own mezzanine butchery where they work to order. Private dining is available along with cosy booths and stools at the counter to watch the chefs in action.

Temper City is hidden away, moments from Bank, Moorgate and Liverpool Street Stations, serving the best steak in the Square Mile. Home to the biggest smoker in the temper family, this is also the place you’ll find the biggest cuts of steak from rare-breed English cattle, aged and butchered in-house, then cooked over fire right in front of the dining counter.

The menu also features tacos, smoked meats, house-made parathas and more, alongside a punchy wine list and choice of tequila and mezcal-focused cocktails available both in the restaurant and out on the terrace.

The 700g Porterhouse was half overcooked and half medium rare and the waitress said that’s normal, tasted ok, beef brisket was too sour so not a fan, chips were nice, coffee was nice, cauliflowers were tough and the bread as well so hard to cut. The cookie dough was nice but the peanut and chocolate tart didn’t taste much. Overall won’t be back.

Tasty food and good menu, been twice in last few months so a review for both. First time went was better than the first BUT second time was much busier! Had to try quite hard to get attention for more water and the bill etc but food was good. Steak both times was cooked how we asked, sauces great, tacos (soft shell crab) first time was amazing but second a bit soggy and no sauce ? Would recommend if want an easy lunch place. Really nice inside but if you’re on a bench tables are quite to eachother so a little struggle to get out
