Smokehouse is a gastropub in Islington with an extensive range of craft beers and smoked food plus cool al fresco dining and a country interior.
Smokehouse work with the most ethical farms and butcher their own meet, slow-cooking everything to tender perfection on a coal grill. They strive to buy from small companies to promote local business and, best of all, their Sunday Roasts are so flavoursome that the Evening Standard said, “this is the place to show us why man discovered fire.”
A lingering smell of woodsmoke is likely to waft over your table, compounding the cabin aesthetic of the interior – there are antlers protruding from the walls, grand fireplaces and greenery that looks like it was foraged by the staff themselves.
Every element of their food has been pored over and twiddled ‘til it’s faultless. Start off with lamb heart, charred broccoli, anchovy and sumac sour cream or their amazing beef tacos with chipotle aioli and crispy shallots, before the main event: rare breed pork rib eye & shoulder; slow smoked lamb shoulder; pan fried stone bass with white bait; rare breed roast beef, and for veggies a lovely spring croquette with broccoli, wild mushrooms and endive.
Transport links are nearby, with Highbury and Islington Tubes just a short walk away.
