Sawyer & Gray is a country-chic espresso bar and kitchen along St Pauls Road in Islington, serving up seasonal Brunch dishes and unrivalled coffee.
There are more than a few nods to Scandi-dining at Sawyer and Gray, from the minimal yet contemporary aesthetic to the simple yet flavourful dishes. They also champion a roster of independent coffee roasters, perfect for pairing with your morning meal.
With a monochrome, rustic palette that feels so homely it’s as though you’re at your mum’s. Cushion are dotted everywhere and there’s rough, unvarnished wooden tables to eat at, plus potted plants and stark chairs, distressed dark brown slats and a chalkboard where they regularly update the seasonal menu.
‘Sawyer’s Brunch’ comes with eggs your way, bacon, avo, feta, dukkah, black sesame, roasted cherry tomatoes and rocket & spinach, or try the slow cooked homemade beans with red pepper, chili, chorizo and a home-baked sourdough. There’s a good selection of pastries and porridges, too and head chef Shay Briscoe steers the team through the variety with aplomb.
You’ll find Highbury and Islington Underground and Rail Station under a five-minute walk away, though you may want to stop by Highbury Fields and the Boer War Memorial on the way past.
