Warm, welcoming, ambient - there’s no shortage of compliments to laud on Jikoni, an Indian Brunchery with a heart of gold.
Jikoni is Swahili for kitchen and reflects the far-flung tastes and homely cooking on show here. Guided by Ravinder Bhogal, an award-winning food writer, TV personality, cook and restaurateur, her hugely influential brand of Indian street food has been making waves across the city, and with good reason.
Their inventive menu includes small plates and scotch eggs and the ‘Main Event’ section is to die for: tamarind glazed bacon, fenugreek waffles and fennel slaw are favourites, along with a mutton keema Sloppy Joe and fried padrons. Pair with a refreshing glass of seasonal Lassi for an authentic taste of India.
Clashing tablecloths, wicker chairs and lamps and plump floral cushions in pastel hues provide a caring environment that matches their flair for philanthropy – the restaurant works closely with Action Against Hunger and regularly stress the importance of recognising maternal cooking and immigrant cuisine through their ties with the Refugee Council.
Jikoni is found in a lovely spot in Marylebone along Blandford Street, with Baker Street Underground just a short walk away.
