Brunch like a champion at German Gymnasium. This Kings Cross venue hosted the indoor events for London's first Olympic Games in 1866, but these days it is a slick restaurant, bar and outdoor terrace.
In its first life, German Gymnasium was exactly just that- built in 1865 for the German Gymnastics Society, the building was England's first purpose-built gymnasium and was funded by London's German Community.
These days, it's one of the best Breakfast and Brunch spots out there. German Gymnasium gives a nod to the site's German heritage with a range of Mittel-European dishes on the menu.
Start your day properly throughout the week with a hearty Breakfast in the Grand Cafe. We recommend trying one of their 'GG Specials', a variety of German-influenced dishes such as a Black Forest Bake and The German Power Breakfast- a feast of Bavarian meatloaf, Rosti, Sauerkraut, fried egg, cheddar cheese and a soft roll. Brunch traditionalists won't be disappointed though, as classic dishes such as avocado & poached eggs, Swiss Bircher muesli and pastries feature heavily on the menu.
Grand Cafe spoils us for choice with their extensive weekend Brunch menu, which spans from soups & sandwiches, oysters & caviar, hot dogs & burgers to main dishes such as Vienna Schnitzel.
On a weekend, the Restaurant is open and offers 2 Brunch dishes for £28 per person or 3 Brunch dishes for £35 per person. Add an extra £15 for unlimited bubbles!
