Galvin Green Man is one of the oldest and most prestigious pubs in Essex with locally-brewed craft beers and delicious Sunday Roasts.
Dating back to 1341, inside pays homage to the history of the building by preserving some of the antique features, from huge roaring fires and intimate, low-ceilinged private dining, though they’ve been given a modern makeover with floor-to-ceiling windows overlooking a lovely beer garden.
Winner is a Michelin-starred joint run by brothers Chris and Jeff Galvin and is set in 1.5 acres of stunning meadow and rolling Essex countryside.
Apertifs such as Nocellara olives or a homemade selection of breads served with smoked butter and sea salt are the perfect teaser, before quintessential British starters, which range from lighter options like whipped smoked cod roe and Heritage beetroot salads with walnuts and goat’s cheese, to hearty, meaty alternatives such as a ham hock & chicken terrine, plum chutney and toasted bloomer.
Main courses are a mouth-watering anticipation: roast breast of Suffolk chicken, sirloin of beef (served juicy and pink), Dingley Dell pork belly with apple sauce, all of which are served with the trimmings. Desserts are equally enticing, with a Valrhona chocolate fondant served with pistachio ice cream being just one of the decadent treats available.
