4.04 months agoWent for the half price carvery offer and we clearly weren't alone with that idea! The pub itself is clean and tidy and benefits from a bit of refurbishment last year. Tables well cleaned and laid, service very friendly and efficient. Carvery was busy, but running smoothly so not too long a wait and a decent portion of meat before you create your own vegetable mountain smothered carefully in gravy that you have to carefully manoeuvre back to your table. Roast potatoes are good, gravy is good and a decent selection of vegetables. The beef was a bit chewy and the standard issue knife isn't up to the job of cutting it TBH. It's a good roast dinner and plenty of it, when on offer it's really good value and the pub itself makes it a pleasant place to eat.

3.0a week agoIt's a Toby carvery, with the queue system, for the price about 11 pounds on a week day and up to 15 for Sunday it isn't too bad at all. Options of pork, gammon, turkey and beef. If you as for the gammon and beef you get more gammon, I paid for the xl and he just gave 2 sausages and wouldn't give me a bit more beef which is why I took a star down, cauliflower cheese didn't have much cheese, Yorkshire puddings big but dry again. Vegetables was overcooked, the carrots were so soft it melted in ones mouth not in a good way. Potato's roasted but not crispy. I mean for cost not bad but the food could be a bit better. Beef was good but not a lot, gammon is well gammon salty and a bit dry. It did get busy on a Friday lunch time and some people did go back for more vegetables. It's not bad, just wish the vegetables weren't so over cooked to death and there was cheese on the cauliflower and cheese. Maybe next time I will just ask for beef see if they give me more. Shame the Yorkshires look amazing but are so dry.

2.05 months agoAbsolutely awful! We visited on a Sunday when it is more expensive as well - never again! The only good thing was the wine - meat had pockets of blood in it, Yorkshire pudding I was given was smaller than a quarter of the size of anyone else’s, the gravy was like water, there were barely any sauces as most of the bowls were scraped empty and the vegetables I had were cold. Have been there previously many times and it’s always been lovely and whilst it was busy I’ve been there when it has been much busier and had no problems. Tried to ask our waitress for the bill and she totally blanked us as she knew we were going to complain about the food. Gave up in the end and had to go to the bar to pay. We were thinking of booking for Christmas for eight of us but that’s definitely not going to happen now!
