A sunny slice of Melbourne Brunch culture has been brought to these colder shores, in the form of Kooks Restaurant.

Kooks is the brainchild of Rebecca Monk, an Aussie chef who opened up shop along Gardner Street in 2015 and has been the informal, cool meeting place for Brightonians ever since.

Inside is a modern haven: think filament bulbs, bare floorboards and quirky artwork. Think relaxed, beach-y vibes and fun, fresh food.

Start with a Brazilian coffee sourced from local roasters Cafe del Golfo.  For food, Kooks' eggs benedict is a good place to start - their version comes with orange, maple glazed ham hock, poached eggs and sourdough. There are ample options available for veggies and vegans, too. Try a mezze-style platter of falafel, halloumi, poached eggs, hummus, guac, mushrooms and sourdough or a classic eggs florentine.

Brighton Rail Station is just up the road, about a 5-minute walk away.
