The grand Victorian exterior may be imposing but inside is anything but – a warm, inviting space with comfy sofas, low lighting and cheerful bar staff cordially invite you to bask in the ambience. Sit in front of the grand, gilded fireplace in a leather armchair or at a table alongside the mahogany wine cupboards lining the walls.
Sundays here are a decadent event: start off with pulled ham hock, pea puree, crispy egg and heritage potatoes for a classic yet modern twist, before delving into a hefty roast. Try the orange & whiskey glazed gammon joint served with beef dripping roast potatoes and red wine jus. Follow it up with a chocolate or salted honey tart and be sure to sample one of their craft beers.
University Rail Station is just a short drive away, just behind the medical school.
