Chester was founded as a Roman fortress in AD 79 built upon the River Dee, and later rebuilt from ruin in Anglo-Saxon 10th century AD. Chester walls were enlarged and remain to this day, making them some of the best-preserved city walls in the UK.

Today, Chester is known for its rich Roman history, medieval architecture & ancient fortress walls and its scenic location by the River Dee, making it one of the UK’s most popular city for an unforgettable break.
